PR for restaurants |
A 2-minute walk from JR Kasugai Station, this is a hideaway for adults where you can enjoy everything from Obanzai to authentic Japanese-style meal.
The proprietress is the sole owner, and handles everything from purchasing to cooking, and serves up carefully prepared obanzai dishes using seasonal ingredients. Even if it's your first time visiting |
While walking to have lunch in front of JR Kasugai Station, I found a restaurant with a calm atmosphere, hidden in the parking lot of an apartment building on the first floor. When I got closer, I saw a sign that said "Obanzai Shunsai" and a blackboard with the lunch menu. I was drawn in by the cozy and hidden atmosphere and opened the door, and found a homey Japanese space that was typical of Obanzai. There were about two groups of customers relaxing there. The proprietress came out to greet me immediately and asked, "What would you like?" even though we hadn't sat down yet. I looked around the restaurant but couldn't find anything that looked like a menu, and I only glanced at the blackboard outside... so I decided to have the daily set meal, which was the only thing I remembered on the blackboard. The daily set meal for this day was a Chinese set of fried chicken and mapo tofu. The moment the food came out, I started to regret that it was Chinese food even though it was Obanzai. The fried chicken and mapo tofu came with Small dish of spinach with sesame sauce, rice, miso soup, and pickles. The rice was cooked very well, but the fried chicken was just okay. It wasn't particularly soft or juicy, but it was like the fried chicken you would get at a regular Izakaya (Japanese-style bar). The miso soup had a weak stock. The mapo tofu was disappointing. It was so salty that I was put off after just one bite. Maybe they made a mistake with the amount of chili bean paste? It's mapo, so it's fine if it's spicy, but it's not good to be too salty. Because of that, I couldn't taste the other dishes, and it felt like all the dishes were ruined. My blood pressure is about to rise (^_^;) I think it was a disaster that it was a restaurant that mainly serves Japanese-style meal, and it happened to be a day when they served Chinese food, which is outside my specialty, but I didn't actively choose Chinese food, so I'm doubly disappointed. The staff, who looked like local ladies, were very friendly, but the atmosphere was the polar opposite of what I expected from the store's appearance. It was a friendly atmosphere, and the service was not bad at all, but next time I'd like to expect a more reasonable price if it's a restaurant with a casual atmosphere like a regular customer. The lunch that day ended with the impression that the restaurant was somewhat mediocre.
