I visited Chinese Cuisine restaurant "Kawanami" in Funabashi for a weekend dinner. The owner and chef, Makoto Minojima, was trained by Chen Jianmin and Huang Changquan, who are said to be the fathers of Szechuan Cuisine, and served as the head chef at Sichuan restaurants in Kashiwa, Funabashi, and Roppongi. In 2019, he was awarded the Medal with Yellow Ribbon. One of the 100 Best Restaurants of 2021. The restaurant is about a 15-minute walk from JR Funabashi Station. Please note that the restaurant is at the end of a road that can only be accessed from the sea side (National Route 14 side). There were small dishes (for 1-2 people) on the menu, so I ordered something that caught my eye. "Boiled chicken and vegetable sesame salad @ 1,045 yen" It has a spiciness similar to chili oil and a sour taste of vinegar. It's quite spicy with a strong garlic flavor. The sesame flavor is surprisingly subdued, and it's different from the usual sesame dressing salad. As I continued to eat, I felt that the sourness of the vinegar became stronger and stronger. The boiled chicken is moist and delicious. "Spicy stewed beef and glass noodles @ 990 yen" A strong soy sauce flavor with a hint of spiciness. The beef and glass noodles are stewed so softly that you could drink it. Perhaps because of the menu choices that day, everything was quite strong-flavored. "Mapo tofu @ 1,100 yen" It seems to be a popular menu item. It has a thick and rich flavor. The spiciness is quite rich, but it is moderately spicy and seems to go well with rice. It is also quite oily. The tofu is silky and plump. "Gomoku Yakisoba (stir-fried noodles) @ 1,265 yen" Contrary to what I expected from the menu name, it was a type of Yakisoba (stir-fried noodles) with a sauce... (´Д`) The ingredients are Chinese cabbage, bok choy, bamboo shoots, dried shiitake mushrooms, ham, scallops, squid, and shrimp. You eat the salt sauce and noodles together, but the noodles absorb the oil and become heavy. To be honest, I think this is normal. . Maybe I had too high expectations because he was from Sichuan Chinese Restaurant, formerly one of the top 100 Chinese Cuisine. So, thank you for the delicious meal this time too.
