Dinner on the first night in Matsuyama. I went to a Izakaya (Japanese-style bar) by myself for the first time in a while at the charcoal grilled yakitori restaurant Nishiya near the hotel. I started with beer and the specialty Uwajima marinated mackerel. Chicken breast and wasabi. The heat was just right. And of course, Matsuyama has jacoten. It was delicious. After the beer, I had Kochi shochu, Dabada Fire Chestnut. As the name suggests, it is a chestnut shochu that is rare in the country. My wife's parents gave this to my parents as a sign of acquaintance, and they gave it great reviews, but I had never tried it myself, and it was a shochu that I really wanted to try, and I never expected to find it in a place like this. I had it on the rocks to fully enjoy it. It was a weekday night, and the place was fully reserved until halfway through, so I was drinking alone, but the owner, who is about my age, and an employee from Matsuyama called out to me, and we spent the night in Matsuyama chatting away, talking about our lives. The food was delicious, and it was a cozy Izakaya (Japanese-style bar) that was easy for business travelers and people to drop in to alone. It was fun. Thank you for the meal.
