京都より、福井に入りホテルにチェックイン。この店はホテルの目の前にある。一度、客先との会食で利用したことがある。
少し変わっているのは、一角に設けられている場所に、各種の串が用意されており、野菜もあれば焼き鶏屋である様なものもあるし、魚の類もあるのだ。これを選んで店員に伝えると、店員が、テーブルまで運んでくれて、それをテーブルに据えられている炉に炭火をいれて、網を乗せて自分で返したりしながら焼き具合を見て、食べるのである。
店としては、手間が省けそれを客にやらせる訳だから、都合はいいだろう。普通は、こういうものは好まないが、偶には面白い（因みにお好み焼きやたこ焼きを店で自分で焼くのは嫌いである）。炭の真上はよく焼けるがそうでない部分は、些か時間がかかり何だか、美味しさを、きちんと引き出す焼き方になってない感じが甚だ強いが、仲間内で楽しく飲んでる分には、それも良い。
他の料理も豊富で、福井なので、鯖のへしこ（炙ったもの）や、おでんの盛り合わせ（これも選ぶことが出来る。もう、おでんの季節なのだなあ）他、色々食べたが楽しかった。烏賊を焼いたものは流石に、切りづらい。店に頼んで切り分けてもらった。遠慮せずに頼むといい訳だ。
焼酎に関しても１，０００円で飲み放題というのがある。前述の串が並んでいる場所の隣に、６種程の焼酎の甕が並んでおり（そういう風に見せてある）、そのジャグを捻ると焼酎がグラスに注がれる訳だ。全部、自分でやるセルフサービスだが、それでも１，０００円で飲めるなら破格である。
福井における、所謂チェーン店の居酒屋は知らないが（東京でも利用しないので知らないが）、こうした、普通の居酒屋は、やはり海が近いということもあるのだろうし、質はきちんとした店が多いと思う。値段も東京よりは断然安いのもいい。何でもそうだけど、凡そ、安かろう悪かろうは正しい。物にもよるが、きちんとしたもので皆が渇望するものは高いのだ。地方都市に来ると、幾分安く、食べることが出来るのは、ありがたい。
鬱陶しい仕事の中での数少ない楽しみでもある。
