えちぜん鉄道の終着駅、三国港駅のすぐ隣にあるレストラン。夏休みの木曜日、１２時過ぎに訪れるが、既に満席であったのでちょっと並ぶ。三国温泉の高級旅館、望洋楼が経営するお店であるのだが、かに道楽のお店のような巨大な蟹のオブジェがお店の建物の上に覆い被さっており、チープな印象を強烈に放っている。しかし、このお店はチープどころか相当洗練されており、その料理もしっかりとしている。最近、地方の老舗のような名店を訪れても、東京の方が美味しいなと思う場合が多く、がっかりさせられることも少なくないのだが、この店は、地のものを丁寧に調理した品を提供しており、わざわざ来た甲斐があると思わさせられる。私が注文したのは、鯖のへしこ、サザエの壺焼き、そして甘エビてんこ盛り丼のそば御膳（正式なメニュー名は忘れました）というものである。鯖のへしこは流石の美味しさで、これは調理の技術も感じられる。サザエの壺焼きは、しっかりとそれなりの美味しさという感じであったが、感心したのは甘エビ丼。酢飯の上に乗っかった甘エビは、本当に甘くて美味しい。私は甘エビ丼という料理は初めて食べたのだが、ウニ丼やいくら丼などの高い系の海鮮もの丼よりも美味しいとさえ思った。注文した日本酒は、それほど美味しいとは思わなかったが、他はなかなか東京でもこの値段では食べられないレベルであると思う。こういうお店が地方にあれば、地方も大丈夫だと思う。そうでない場合が多すぎるので、こういうお店にはしっかりと営業を続けてもらいたいなと考える。
