瀬戸内の良港。はるか昔、かの弘法大師（空海）も唐への往復で立ち寄った由緒ある港町。豊臣秀吉も天下の大阪城築城の際、小豆島から切り出した石垣の石を陸揚げした港。いまも海底にそのとき水中に落とした巨岩が横たわっています。船で運んだのではなく大きないかだに石を吊り下げて運んだとか。浮力で軽くなる、という理屈。姫路周辺の山や小豆島、家島など採石で半分削られてなくなったのを目にします。なんともすさまじい自然破壊。
最近、室津や赤穂、日生の牡蠣が関西でも人気。そろそろシーズンも終わりなので室津のお店によって見ました。港を一周する様に石畳の道を行くと、ちょうど交番の前に「まるよし」さんがあります。外観も店内も落ち着いた雰囲気でいかにも割烹、という感じ。
残念ながら牡蠣の生食はだせませんんというので刺身と穴子どんぶりを。
カウンター席と小部屋、２卓。白身魚のお刺身も穴子も美味。今度はしっかりとフルコースでいただきます。
