■□■――・・・ Various celebrations ・・・――■□■

A shrine visit is a celebration where you visit the local deity (shrine) for the first time in your life. This is an event to have babies recognized as parishioners. Generally, the birth date for boys is the 31st day after birth, and for girls it is the 32nd day after birth, but this varies depending on the region.

First meal (first chopsticks/first fish/celebration of a hundred flowers)

First meal (first chopsticks/first fish/celebration of a hundred flowers)

One of the baby's celebrations is to prepare food other than breast milk for the first time on the 100th or 120th day after birth and pretend to feed it. This is a Japanese ritual that has been going on since the Heian period to pray for the baby's healthy growth and that they will never have to worry about food for the rest of their lives. ■The meaning of Oku-Hajimezen -------------------- ---------------------------- ■Fish Sea bream, which is often used for celebrations as a play on the word ``happy'', is prepared with the tail on. is common. It is also sometimes used as ``houbo,'' which means to stand in front of others. ■Rice Bowl Since it is an auspicious event, it is often served with sekihan, but rice mixed with seasonal ingredients or white rice are also OK. ■Simmered Simmered dish are meant to be auspicious, and are made with seasonal ingredients such as kelp and bamboo shoots. Also, since it is a celebratory occasion, it is a good idea to make red and white red and white with carrots and radish to bring good luck. ■Suimono It has the meaning of ``so that you can suck breast milk well.'' ■ Pickles As a pickle, a ``teeth hardening stone'' is added as a wish for the growth of strong teeth. It seems that ``pickled plums'' are sometimes added to the dish to ensure longevity until the wrinkles form. Also, depending on the region, octopus or chestnuts are added instead.

The first festival after a baby is born is called the first festival, and parents, grandparents, and other family members gather around a celebratory meal. For girls, we pray for the baby's healthy growth and good health on Peach Festival on March 3rd, and for boys on Boy's Festival on May 5th. However, if the baby's first festival is celebrated soon after it is born, many people do not force the celebration and instead postpone it to the following year.

first birth

first birth

A celebratory event in which a child who has reached his first birthday is made to carry or step on a rice cake wrapped in a wrapping cloth. It is said that people's lifetimes and one sho of mochi are used to make wishes such as ``to live a long and full life'' or ``to never have to worry about food for the rest of my life.'' At the same time, we also perform a ``selection'' to predict the baby's future occupation and talents. This is an event where you place several items or cards with pictures on them in front of the baby, and judge by what the baby picks up and shows interest in.

Shichigosan

Shichigosan

This is an event held on November 15th of the year when a child turns three (for girls), five (for boys), or seven (for girls), to give thanks for their growth and pray to the local deity (at a shrine) for future happiness. The 15th of the lunar calendar was the day when demons do not wander about, and was considered auspicious for anything to be done except for weddings. November of the lunar calendar was also the month when people gave thanks to the deity for the harvest after finishing the harvest. It is said that the origin of Shichigosan Day is that on the 15th, which is the full moon day of November, people began to give thanks to the local deity for the harvest and the growth of their children, and pray for their protection. It is said that one of the reasons why Shichigosan came to be held on November 15th is that Tsunayoshi, the 5th Shogun of the Edo Shogunate, prayed for the health of his eldest son on November 15th. However, recently, more and more families are celebrating between mid-October and late November on auspicious days according to the Rokuyo calendar (Taian, Sensho) or on a day that is convenient for the family, rather than focusing on a specific date.

The entrance ceremony is the first step for children to step into a new society. In particular, entering elementary school is a time of big change for both children and parents, and marks a new beginning. There are no set customs for how to celebrate, so invite your grandparents and celebrate with three generations.

In Japan, once you reach the age of 20, you are socially treated as an adult. The ancient ``Genpuku Kakan no Gi'' is the origin of the current Coming of Age Ceremony. The second Monday of January is designated as a public holiday as Coming of Age Day, and various ceremonies are held in cities, wards, towns and villages across the country. When it comes to attire, many women seem to choose furisode or formal dresses, and men wear crested hakama or formal suits.

Meetings and engagement ceremonies are days when new bonds are forged between the two families. Wada-ya will do its best to help you spend such an important day in a peaceful atmosphere. Please enjoy delicious food in a quiet private room.

Celebration of longevity

Celebration of longevity

There are names for milestone ages to celebrate longevity, such as kanreki, koki, and kiju. Originally, it was celebrated by the age according to the traditional Japanese reckoning system, but nowadays it is more common to celebrate by the full age. However, kanreki is celebrated when the person turns 61 according to the traditional Japanese reckoning system, or 60 according to the full age. At Onaya Wada, we have chanchanko (red/purple/yellow/white) that are perfect for celebratory occasions. kanreki...61 years old (60 years old) It is called "kanreki" because it is a return to the zodiac sign of the year of birth. There is a custom of wearing a red chanchanko, and red is the color of longevity celebration. koki (kiju)...70 years old It comes from a line in a poem by Du Fu, a poet from the Tang Dynasty in China, "Life is rare in ancient times to be 70 years old." In modern times, it seems to be considered a more serious celebration of longevity than kanreki. Purple is the color of longevity celebration. kiju...77 years old It comes from the fact that the cursive form of the character "ki" (joy) is made up of three sevens stacked on top of each other, which can be read as 77. Purple is the color of longevity celebration. Kanju...80 years old The abbreviated character for "umbrella" (umbrella) is made up of eight and ten overlapping, which means it can be read as "80". Yellow (golden brown) is the color for celebrating longevity. Beiju...88 years old The abbreviated character for "rice" (rice) can be read as "88". Yellow (golden brown) is the color for celebrating longevity. Sotsuju...90 years old The abbreviated character for "sotsu" (graduation) can be read as "卆", which means it can be read as "90". White is the color for celebrating longevity. Hakuju...99 years old The abbreviated character for "soto" (graduation) can be read as "shiro" (white) and white is the color for celebrating longevity. Kiju or Hyakuju...100 years old It is called Kiju because 100 years is a century, and Hyakuju because it is 100 years old. White is the color for celebrating longevity. Celebrations for longevity over 100 years old include Chaju (108 years old), Koju (111 years old), and Daikanreki (120 years old). There is also Tenju (250 years old).

baby chair

baby chair

A 2-way baby chair is available for children who are still restless during the first meal, the first annual festival, Shichi-Go-San Festival, etc. It can be placed directly on the tatami mat of a sunken kotatsu seat, or installed on a chair (fixed to a belt), making it suitable for a wide range of ages.

Teething Stone

Teething Stone

■ Teething Stone In the past, strong teeth were thought to be the key to longevity. As you can see from the kanji character for "age," strong teeth and being able to chew food well were thought to be deeply connected to growing older (= living longer). Teething stones are used to express the wish that "your teeth will grow strong like a stone and you will live a long life." ■ First Meal The role of pretending to feed the baby is performed by the "foster parent." The role of "foster parent" is usually the eldest family member, as it is believed to share in the baby's longevity, but nowadays it seems that most people ask the grandparents to do this. If it is a boy, the man is the "foster parent," and if it is a girl, the woman is the "foster parent," and they put the baby on their lap and pretend to feed it. In the first meal ceremony, there is an order in which the baby is fed. However, since the baby cannot actually eat yet, it is enough to just pretend to feed the baby by bringing the food close to their mouth. After that, we use a "teething stone" to perform the "teething ceremony" to pray for the baby's strong teeth. ① Rice → ② Clear soup → ③ Rice → ④ Fish → ⑤ Rice → ⑥ Clear soup → ⑦ Gently tap the chopsticks on the teething stone... → ⑧ Gently tap the chopsticks on the baby's gums, praying that "I hope my teeth will grow strong like stone."

"Seletori" is a method of fortune telling to predict a baby's future career and talents. Various tools or cards representing careers and talents are placed a short distance away from the baby, and the baby's future is predicted based on which one they pick up if they show an interest. ■Future careers ・Stethoscope: doctor ・Stationery: scholar, teacher ・Gallar: judge ・Ball: athlete ・Microphone: singer ・Abacus: businessman ・Instrument: musician ・Frying pan: cook ・National Diet Building: politician ・Mirror: entertainer, model ■Personality and fortune ・Choko: good at socializing ・Scissors: dexterous ・Rice: no shortage of food ・Mochi: strong and full of good fortune ・Money: collect abundant wealth ・Pencil: live wisely and intelligently ・Kitchen knife: become a good cook ・Ruler: become a reliable person ・Balloon: spread your wings and fly out into the world ・Comb: good taste and stylish

The "red chanchanko" is an essential part of celebrating the 60th birthday. Why a red chanchanko? ------------------------------------- Red has the meaning of warding off evil. For that reason, red was used for newborn clothes in the olden days. Also, a "chanchanko" is a sleeveless haori coat worn by a child. The 60th birthday has the meaning of being reborn. It seems that the custom of giving a red chanchanko arose from this "return to being a baby." At Wada-ya, we have 4 colors of chanchanko available to suit your celebration. ■Red: 60th birthday (60 years old) ■Purple: 70th birthday (70 years old), 77th birthday (77 years old) ■Yellow: 80th birthday (80 years old), 88th birthday (88 years old) ■White: 90th birthday (90 years old), 99th birthday (99 years old), 100th birthday (100 years old)

The general way to celebrate the Issho Mochi is to have the baby carry the rice cake wrapped in cloth or furoshiki. Some parents may be worried about whether the baby will be able to stand up properly. However, Issho Mochi is an event to celebrate the healthy growth of the baby. It doesn't really matter whether the baby can stand up or not. Of course, parents are happy about the growth of the baby who can stand up, and for children who can't stand up yet, it is said that "children who walk slowly will stay with their parents for a long time (will inherit the family)" and are considered to be lucky. It is also said that "children who crawl a lot will have strong legs and hips." It is also said that falling down will "get rid of bad luck." Whether the baby cries or laughs, stands or falls, it is proof of a year's growth. Let's all be happy. *Reservation required 7 days in advance *Cancellation fee: Free up to 8 days in advance, 100% from 7 days in advance to the day [Issho Mochi] Please be sure to tell us when making a reservation.
