JR土浦駅西口から少し歩いたところにある、創業明治2年（1869年）の老舗天ぷら屋さん。付近は旧街道なのか、古民家や土蔵が立ち並ぶ趣があるエリア。建物は、かなりの年季を感じる。
戦前から存在するように見えるのだけど、空襲は免れたのだろうか。平日の11時、お店開店時間に合わせて入店。店内も外観同様、年季が入った感じ。ここは定番の、上天丼1290円を注文。
海老2尾と、かき揚げが入った天丼。かき揚げの具材には、小エビと帆立貝柱が入っている。タレは関東風の、辛口で切れ味のいいタイプ。関西のタレは甘口が多いので、このタレは新鮮味がある。
天ぷらの衣は、タレを吸って柔らかくべちょっとしていた。この点を除けば、ほぼ完璧な天丼だと思う。でもお米は美味しいし、海老の鮮度もいい。さすが老舗、完成度が高い天丼だった。
