The opening day

2011.3.1

Remarks

I was born in this town and went to school here. I made lots of friends and fell in love quite a bit. When I got a job, I left Samukawa, where I was born and raised. I left my hometown feeling guilty for my mother, who thought she would be in this town from birth until death. Shibuya, Shinjuku, and Roppongi, I was young and enjoyed a rather fashionable night. I was intoxicated by the sensations I had never experienced in my hometown. I played all night, rubbing my sleepy eyes in the sleepless city. It was as if I was putting off the passage of time... I savored my first time living alone. Before I knew it, I had become estranged from my mother. I opened social media and casually sent "likes" to the friends I'd met in this town, thinking that it wasn't me who had changed, just the times. When I'm here, I'm here. As if raising a voiceless voice. At that time, a post caught my eye. We had recognized each other as best friends in our student days, and we would go to Samukawa Shrine together every year for the first shrine visit of the year. Suddenly reality hits me with nostalgia. So she got married, fell in love with a local and will live and make a living in her hometown. "I realized I'm getting to that age too," I muttered in a taxi after opening a bottle of champagne with some high-spec friends in Nishi-Azabu, a town with no train station. The next day, she posted on social media again. It was a notice of a "class reunion" that caught my attention, a post that I would normally ignore. Men 4,000 yen, women 3,000 yen, minors 1,000 yen, children free, all-you-can-drink for 3 hours. Please decide the number of people early as it is a completely private event. Gushiken's specialty "Leave-it-alone party" I reunited with my old classmates on the second floor of a 70-year-old traditional house. Some of them had gained weight, some had two children, some were handsome but unfortunately, some took over the family business, and I laughed with my old friends as we talked about old times. It's kind of comforting to see things that never change. . . . . . . I realized that there are some drinks here that taste better than the tequila you drink in Roppongi or the champagne you drink in Shibuya. There are no fully glassed-in restrooms here, and no one wears a low-cut dress. It's hard to catch a taxi, and the last train leaves very early. But maybe I like it after all... Two years have passed since then. My mother still wakes me up early in the morning, waking me up two hours before she has to go to work. We've had a few more fights, but breakfast with my mother is still special!! My commute has definitely gotten a little tougher, but I feel like I have more time to myself, and I'm not just imagining it, right? ? Oh, by the way, next month I'm getting married to the man I met at the class reunion that day for the first time in eight years. In my last month as a single man, I'll show you how to drink alcohol the way I learned it in Roppongi. "Excuse me, can I have another cup of sanpin hai?" Tomorrow I'm going to Samukawa Shrine with my best friend. I'm going to pray to the gods, so that he and my mother will always be healthy and strong.
