昔から錦を歩くと何件か川魚屋さんがあり、美味しそうに焼き上げたうなぎの蒲焼やうなぎ茶漬や生きたどぜうを売っていて、それをみて回るのが楽しみだった。20年前くらいから段々と良い物を売る店が少なくなり、観光客目当てのコンセプト西大津変わってきた。
そして今ではもう完全に観光名
所と化して、歩いている人の8割方はガイジンさんだ。時代と共に街は変化する。
この店もそんな川魚屋さんのひとつ、店先では昔ながらに蒲焼や八幡巻きを並べて売っている。その2階にイートインコーナーがある。少し並んだ。並んでいる場所から調理場が見える。何処からか巨大なタッパーに山と積まれたキンキンに冷えた白焼きうなぎが運ばれて来て小さなおばさんが手際よく串うちしていく。実に見事な手きだ!そして丁寧におこした炭火でタレを絡めながらじっくりと焼いてゆく。
注文品は「うな丼」(うなぎ半匹)。トロミのある甘〜いタレ。カリカリの地焼。
