A popular shop along the Shirakawa River, close to Higashiyama Station in Kyoto. It is open from morning until night, and is famous for its breakfast, so customers come from early in the morning. Basically, reservations are required, and breakfast is served in two shifts, one from 8:00 a.m. and one from 9:00 a.m., with about 8 seats available each time. Breakfast is on the first floor, with two small tables for two and one large table. When I arrived a little before time, it felt like the store had just been branded and was ready to open. For some reason, the sign outside is not lit, but it seems that there are at least a few people who visit without knowing about the reservation system, so this may be to avoid that. In fact, there were people who looked like foreign tourists visiting during business hours, but they turned us away. When I took my seat, the table was already set with raw eggs and sesame sauce. First of all, you will be asked for a drink, but in addition to the menu, there is also free roasted green tea. Most people only have this tea, but the food goes well with sake and wine, so many people ask for sake in the morning. In fact, I think it's nice to have some hot sake at this time of year. After receiving the appetizer of sesame dressing, steamed vegetables and grilled fish will be served soon. The rice is also served freshly cooked in a clay pot, which has a nice aroma and texture. It's served little by little in a rice bowl, but you can have as many refills as you like, and you can get two bowls of just the egg-cooked rice. All the dishes and ingredients are wonderful, and you can feel it's restaurant quality. You can also enjoy coffee on the second floor after your meal. I don't think locals generally use it, but I think it's a good option to enjoy a high-quality breakfast while traveling in Kyoto.
