[2024.1.24 First visit] Solo trip to Kyoto! First shot! I've written this many times, but I love Chinese food! Out of all of them, my favorite is the Cantonese restaurant where I used to work. Right? When I think of Cantonese cuisine, I think of it as grilled food. Of course, stir-fried dishes are the real deal, but among the other eight major cuisines (Shandong, Sichuan, Jiangsu, Guangdong, Anhui, Zhejiang, Fujian, and Hunan), Cantonese cuisine is by far the best. I'm thinking. Cantonese cuisine (Hong Kong cuisine) specializing in grilled food has opened in Kyoto! I found out about it on SNS, etc., so I had to go! So, I decided to schedule the first part of this solo trip to Kyoto! LOL So, as per my scheduled schedule, I left the office and arrived at Nagoya Station in the snow. I try to pass through the Shinkansen ticket gate by holding my iPhone over it, but what? I can't pass! I hold my iPhone up again, but it still won't pass. When I told the station staff that I couldn't enter the station, she asked me, "Have you upgraded your smartphone recently?" When I answered, "Not recently, but I changed my model last year!" Apparently, the ID registered in the EX app I had installed was not working properly with the ID link with the Suica app, so I couldn't pass through the ticket gate. The cause. According to the station staff, this happens often after changing the model, and she kindly and carefully explained the procedure for changing the app, and everything went smoothly! Thank you! Arrive at Kyoto Station, take the South 5 bus from the city bus stop in front of Kyoto Station, and get off at Shiokoji Bridge. From there, it's about a 5 minute walk to the store. Yeah, as others have written, I didn't know where the store was at first, but I found a small signboard and entered, but...the sturdy-looking door made it very difficult to enter! Lol When I nervously opened the door, I was relieved to find the modern interior, which is hard to imagine from the exterior. But... it's the middle of lunch time, and there's not a single customer... Oh? Are you open for business? I was worried and asked the shop staff if they could do it. When I confirmed this, she said, "Yes, please." I sat down at the end of a long table and looked at the menu. I ordered the ⚫︎ Grilled Flavor Set (Meat Combo) with three kinds of grilled flavors (oven-grilled roast duck, crispy pork belly with skin, white-cut chicken and ginger sauce). I wait while checking the transportation route to the next store on my smartphone. After a while, the grilled flavor set arrived. Oh, it's quite authentic! That's right, the owner of the restaurant apparently trained in Hong Kong, so he seems to have made it authentically. First, take a sip of the soup. Yes, unlike the boring Chinese soup that comes with Chinese set meals in town, it was thick but not salty, which was nice. Next, take a bite of rice. oh? Isn't this really jasmine rice? Although it is different from Japanese rice, I personally think that jasmine rice is more delicious when making fried rice, Hainanese chicken rice, etc. Now, let's get to the most important grilled flavor! Having said that, let's start with Shiragiri chicken. LOL This is written as having three types of grilled flavor, but it is actually steamed, not grilled. An appetizer dish in which chicken is steamed and then soaked in seasoned soup to absorb the flavors. Well, this is also one of the representative dishes of Cantonese cuisine, and I love it, so whenever it's on the menu, I usually order it. Yes, it's delicious! Next, we had the oven-roasted duck (Beijing roast duck). When it comes to Peking duck in Japan, it is common to eat only the skin, but in China and Hong Kong, where it is made, it is common to use up both the skin and the meat. Yes, it's moist and soft, and it tastes like duck. However, if possible, I think it would be even more delicious if you added a sweet sauce like in Hong Kong. Next, we had the crispy pork belly with the skin on. There is something similar to this in Thai Cuisine, but I don't know where it originated from. It's cut into quite large pieces. Hmm, I feel like it lacks a bit of seasoning. I wonder if that's why it's served with grain mustard? In any case, Cantonese cuisine, which mainly focuses on grilled dishes, is quite niche, but I think it's a good place to start, so I hope it continues for a long time. Thank you for the meal!
