[Car] From Joetsu City (Naoetsu), go straight on National Route 8 towards Kakizaki. After passing Saigata Station, when you see the confectionery shop Zenshiro on your left, take the road just before it into the residential area. 100m ahead on your left you will see Sable (a building with a brick-colored roof, a chimney and red and white window frames). Head towards it and turn left at the second corner. [Train] 20 minutes on foot from Dosokohama Station or Saigata Station 896 meters from Dosokohama. |

My husband was working in Niigata, so we stopped by for lunch on the way back from accompanying him. My husband had been there many times and had heard good things about the place, so we were really looking forward to it, and it lived up to our expectations. We made a reservation, but the restaurant was fully booked. We had a fish course and a Steak course. For the appetizer, we had corn and beetroot mousse with figs and grapes. The bitterness of the beets and the sweetness of the corn complemented each other, and it was my favorite dish this time. The next soup was a cucumber potage. I could taste a hint of cucumber in the aftertaste. The ginger oil on top was effective. The cucumber might have been even more pronounced if it was served cold. I shared the main course with my husband. Sautéed Spanish mackerel with mushroom sauce. The mushrooms were really delicious!! The meat was good, but the sauce was a bit sour. For dessert, we had passion fruit sorbet with coconut milk. The coconut milk had a summery feel to it, and it was delicious. This fish course would be 2000 yen, which is a great value for money. I don't go to Niigata very often, but I'd like to visit again.
