It was my wife's last birthday in her 60s. Usually I would have skipped this place, but she won a long shot at the motorboat races, so I decided to go for it. I decided on this place through a search, and my hustle was spot on. All the dishes are made with skill and love, as you would expect from a restaurant that is ranked highly on Tabelog. There are no courses, everything is ordered individually, so you have to put it all together yourself. There is only one handwritten menu and one drink menu, so customers pass it around. As he is the only one person cooking and serving the food, I assumed that we weren't allowed to order multiple dishes at once, but I think it would be better to order a certain amount at the start. First, we toasted with draft beer and Kirin Lager. The appetizer was boiled mizuna, which had a strong dashi flavor. Photography is prohibited inside the restaurant and on the menu, but it is OK to take photos of the food you order. First, we had "sea bream marinated in kelp with grated yam", which really brought out the flavor of the well-marinated sea bream. There was a hint of vinegar in the grated yam, so it was kind of a Vinegared dish dish, it was the first time I'd ever come across this. Next, we had Tempura with sardine meatballs wrapped in shiso leaves - very elaborate. You can tell at this point that the food is like that of a small Japanese restaurant. Usually, we would have ordered a sashimi platter, but my wife, who loves squid, ordered swordfish sashimi. The wasabi is grated fresh and it's delicious even if eaten as is. This is a place where you can relax and enjoy your drink. The prices are twice as much as those of a chain Izakaya (Japanese-style bar), but you can really feel the craftsmanship of the artisans. The sake they served were all well-known brands of pure rice wine - hoorah! The tea served afterwards was delicious!
