各線・なんば駅からすぐ近く。道頓堀の松竹座の隣、道頓堀と御堂筋が交差する角っこ、まさに大阪でいちばん説明しやすい場所にある、言わずと知れた肉の老舗です。
大きな3階建ての建築物の2階・3階は高級すき焼きのお座敷で、ここには高級すぎてなかなか近寄れないが、1階は精肉店とやや高級なグリル、そして南の端には最廉価版のカレーショップが営業しています。
見るからに立派なこの建物は木造で、今では消防法によって規制され、同じ造りでは立て替えることはできないとか…
当初はカレーショップを目指してここに来たのだが、行列になっていて断念。比較的空いているグリルで洋食をいただくことにしました。
店内は4人がけテーブルが10卓あまり、タイルと木を組み合わせた壁の設えや、照明器具がレトロでいい感じ。フロアーにはベテランそうなウエイターさん3名と、キャッシャーには女将さん。妙なへりくだりのない、さりげなく丁寧な応対が好印象です。
スペシャルランチ（2,700円）を注文すると、先ずスープが運ばれてきます。コーンクリームスープですね。コーンの甘みは控えめながら液体とは言えないほど濃厚で、旨みをここに凝縮させていますね。
メインの料理はミニサイズのサーロインステーキとエビフライです。ライスとパンのチョイスなんだが、レトロな洋食店ではライスでしょ…エビフライは大振りな身をサックリ揚げられていてイイ感じ。タルタルソースをたっぷり着けていただきます。
ステーキは…さすがお肉の店ですね。和牛の脂の旨みが凝縮しています。ナイフがサックリ入る、この柔らかさ…まさしく和牛です。
デミグラスソースはあまり主張のないタイプ。肉の旨みを削がない程度のさりげない味付けです。しかし、ミニサイズにもかかわらず、しっかり食べた感がある…和牛は少量で充分ですね。
最後のコーヒーは、いつもはブラックなんだが、レトロな雰囲気に影響されてか、ミルクと砂糖をたっぷり入れました。
実に昭和なこのお店、お客の年齢層も高めだし、床がガタガタなので椅子が傾き、食べる姿勢が安定しない。それでも、昭和の時代に思いを馳せることで許せてしまいます。
