最近、というのは少し時間が経ったが、いつのまにかできていたお店。毎日の通勤経路なので、看板が付け替えられたのは嫌でも目に入る。さて、どんなお店なんじゃろな、と様子をうかがってきたが、ようやく在宅勤務の昼飯で、間合いが合った。
日本語の「酒場」にアメリカの文化である「ダイナー」と、petit bateau（仏：プチ・バトー：小さな船）が組み合わされた店名の時点で既に国籍がわからないハイブリッド感満載。おまけにランチのメニューは「パスタ」（伊）or「ジャンバラヤ」（ケイジャン料理、なのでスペインにルーツのあるアメリカの料理）と、さらにハイブリッド。ジャンバラヤの国籍不詳感が混迷に拍車をかける。広い意味じゃアメリカ料理だが、何も知らないとエスニック料理に思えるし、少なくともジャンバラヤ目当てに「ダイナー」に行こうと思うものではないな。さらに店に入ってみたらオムライス（日）があることに気づき、一体この店の重心はどこにあるのだ、と、コンセプトのごった煮感に不安でドキドキ。爽やかな店員の兄ちゃんの誘導に従いカウンター席へ。11:20ごろ、やや早めに入ったこともあって先客は居ない。
本当はスパゲッティにしようと思ってきてみれば、席のメニューは、ジャンバラヤが書いてあるほうを表に置いてある。これは、ジャンバラヤで勝負したいということかな、と、店の意気を汲み取り、ならば全力で叩いてやるとばかりに、ジャンバラヤにチーズを載せてオムライス風に仕立てた「オムチーズジャンバラヤ」の大盛り1,280円。大盛りサービスってのはいいね。
注文すると先に、コールスローサラダとスープが出て来る。これが、中々しっかり背骨の通った、小手先じゃない感のあるいい味。お、これは中々イケるんでない、と思うと、焼き上ったばかりのパンを切り分けて渡してくれる。このパンも、焼き立てプレミアムはあったが、悪くない。こりゃあ、中々の店だな、と思って出て来たジャンバラヤも、これまた中々、スパイシーでありつつ旨み、食べ応えもあって、思わずバクバク行ってしまう。ケイジャンチキン（アイアンチキンというらしい）とか、焼きブロッコリー、焼きトウモロコシ、焼きプチトマトなどもごっちゃにワンプレートに乗って出てきて、絵面も何かグチャ感があってけして美的に映えるものでもなく、意外と言っては店に失礼だが美味しい。見送ったパスタだって試してみたいと思った。この味だけなら、もっと流行ってもいいはずだとか思うんだが、あまりにハイブリッド過ぎて重心がわからず、「何を期待していいのかわからない」ってのが、足を引っ張ってるんだろうなぁ。ウッチャンが時々言う「キャラの渋滞」ってのか。色んなものを盛りすぎてジャングルと化している。
階段を下って行く地下階ってのも入り難さがある。でも店員はみんな感じがよかったし、価格もスパゲッティは980～1,180円で、ジャンバラヤも1,080円。スペシャルで盛りすぎのオムチーズジャンバラヤだけ1,280円だが、納得の範囲。内装は本当にいわゆる「ダイナー」って感じで悪くないし、肝心の食事も美味しいから、いいと思うんだけどね。
そう言いながら、今なお、この店の重心がどこにあるのか、測りかねている自分が居る。
