渋谷駅マークシティ裏側の飲み屋街の一角にIZAKAYA VINはある。外観からはビストロには見えないが、趣ある情緒溢れる佇まいが印象的である。それもそのはずで、この場所で営業されて５０年近くになる伝統的なレストランだ。
渋谷の喧騒を背中に受けながら、店内に入ると、一階はカウンター席になっていて一人客がちらほらと見える。案内された二階にあがると、5つばかりのテーブル席が用意されており、その一つの席についた。
古酒や魅力的なワインが多く用意されている、と聞いていた通り、無数のワインが掲載されているワインリストから一本を選んだ。それに合わせてツマミを少々注文した。一息ついて店を見渡すと、幅広い年齢層が笑顔で食事とワインを楽しんでいる。ここはビストロというよりは、ワイン酒場といった方が適切なのかもしれない、と思った。店主も恐ろしいほどワインに精通し、ワインを大事にして生きてきたに違いないが、作法だとか、エチケットだとか、そんな口煩いことは一言も発さない。客に任せ、街と一緒に生活する―そんな生き方が店に根付いている。だからこそ、集まる客も、気兼ねなく時間を楽しめるのだろう。そのおかげで、筆者も落ち着いて普段の悩みを忘れながら古酒を楽しむことができた。
外に出ると、ガヤガヤとした騒めきがかえってきた。それもまたこの街のシンボルなのだ、そう思いながらほろ酔いで店を後にした。
