仕事で出先から戻る途中に、少し早いがこの店で夕食を取った。昼食を食べていないので早目でも構わない。新宿には凡そ何の料理でも、複数の店があるので不便になることはまるでない。久しぶりにとんかつを食べようと思い、少し調べて未訪問のこの店に出向いた。歌舞伎町にある。新宿は家から歩いて10分程なので休日に昼食を取る為に、結構な頻度で出向くが、歌舞伎町には殆ど行ったことがない。夜には一度も無いかも知れない。酔って二軒目ということも普段の行動範囲と地理的にありえないこともある。猥雑に相違無いしエネルギッシュだろうが自分が落ち着ける場所ではなさそうだということもある。
だが、この日は夕方。未だそうした空気が情勢される前である。存外立派なこの店に入り、一階のカウンター席に案内される。結構、広い店でウッディで雰囲気もある。メニューを眺めると、上質な肉を使う料理も多く、とんかつ専門店ではないこともあり、相当に値が張る料理もかなりある。とんかつは好きだが2,000円前後で収まる程度の店に訪れることが多い。それより高いとなると少し躊躇がある。鰻重とは異なる。折り合いの問題である。
ひれかつ定食を頼んだ。2,200円だったか。６つにカットしたものである。店の雰囲気は良く落ち着くのだが、此処のひれかつはもう少し足りぬ気がした。カットの厚みに問題があるということではないが、何か肉に齧り付いた際の充足感に少し乏しい感じが残った。加えて店特製のソースということだが、この濃度が薄いのが好みに合わない。とんかつのソースはのってりと粘度があるもので甘味、酸味が肉を覆い包む様なものが宜しく、充溢して肉と組み合わさるものが良いのだが・・・
それでも、給仕もきちんとしており落ち着いてゆっくりと食べた。
