急に空いた時間、特に昼頃だとこれを逃す手は無い訳で、チョット食べるには麺類がベスト。しかも車か自転車の時が最高。行動範囲が広がり選択肢が増える。新宿近辺特にラーメンブームの牽引役となった小滝橋通り界隈はラーメン屋が充実していると思っているので、行った事がない店がこの地域でヒットしたので一目散にこの店へ。
平日13:00頃、行列を心配したが無用。
人気店らしくカウンター席ばかりではあるものの店内は広い。
まず入口横の券売機で食券の購入が必要なのだが、辿り着き入店できることで気が緩み、何を食べるか考えがまとまらない。ラーメンかつけ麺か？これはラーメンと即断。次は塩か醤油か。正直悩んだが「この店の主たるラーメンはどちらか」で決めることに。券売機の左列が塩、右列が醤油なので、この店は「塩」が「推し」と勝手に推測。もう一つのポイントは「当店人気No.1」が「軍鶏特製塩ラーメン1,500円」だから。軍鶏ラーメン1,000円、軍鶏味玉ラーメン1,200円、軍鶏チャーシューラーメンが1,400円の中から軍鶏味玉塩ラーメンを選択。
登場した塩ラーメン。1,000円と言う値段に恥じない程立派なチャーシューが2枚と少し黄金色の美味しそうなスープ。メンマと刻みネギ、オプションで付けた煮卵と言う王道を行くラーメンスタイル。
麺は綺麗に漉いて畳まれたストレート麺。口に入れて麺を噛み切る感触が心地よい。決してプリプリせず、敢えて感触を音で表すと「サクッサクッ」と噛み切れる。小麦の旨さをしっかり感じ取る事ができる。
薄く脂の浮いたスープを一口。最初から強烈に主張するものは無いなと思った途端、ジワジワ旨味が湧き上がる。「軍鶏」と謳うので鶏白湯スープをイメージしたので先入観は見事に裏切られた訳だが、分かった様な言葉で恐縮ではあるが味の重層構造で旨味を抜き出し良い塩で味を整えている様な気がする。
2枚のチャーシューは部位が異なる為か食感がまるで異なる。チャーシューは一口目でオッと思わせる仕掛けが施されており、驚かされる。スモークしてあり、この香りが心地よく感じられるのだ。味付けはサッパリ目。こう書くとスモーキーに頼って腰砕と思われてしまうが、そう言うことでは無い。
味としての基準は「新宿の味」、つまり、どちらかといえば濃い目である。故に刻みネギのアクセントが生きる。
美味しいラーメンはスープを残したく無くなるものだ。
所謂「完食」してしまって大満足。
この店はつけ麺は太麺を使っている様子（オーダーと提供する順番が変わることがあるとの張り紙あり）、このつけ麺と、醤油の方も是非試してみたいと思う。
