新大久保駅の改札を出て本当に目の前、横断歩道を渡ったすぐの場所にある、明治23年(1899年)創業の老舗お蕎麦屋さん「百人町 近江家」。平日の12:30くらいに初訪問。
席数はかなり多くってテーブル席、カウンター席ともに多数あり。お昼どきで賑わっていて、新大久保はすっかり若者の街のイメージだけど、ここはお客さんの年齢層は高め。
メニューは冷やし、温かいのお蕎麦やうどんがあり、かけやせいろが750円から、大体は千円を超える。外は気温30度を超えそうな暑さだったので、今回は冷やしのメニューから選び、天せいろにしてみる。ランチセット的なサービスメニューは無い。
・天せいろ 1,400円
ものの5分ちょっとで提供あり。せいろのお蕎麦は平たく盛ってある、さっそくお蕎麦から。喉越しは良くて、蕎麦つゆは甘さはあまりなくキリッと食べることができる。量は少し物足りな気。
海老天は存在感のある大きさで、シシトウが添えられている。かなり太めの海老で、ブリっとした食感で衣もカラッとサクサクに揚がっており、塩で食べたらとても美味しかった。
街のお蕎麦屋さんよりも少しランクが上めのそば處だった。お支払いはSuicaなど電子マネーが使える。PayPayは使えない。
