東京地下鉄東西線 早稲田駅から徒歩6~7分。かっぱ巻き発祥の店として知られる「八幡鮨 (やはたずし)」の地下一階に「焼鳥 はちまん」がある。店名はお店の近所に鎮座する穴八幡宮に由来。店主は、八幡鮨の五代目店主の弟様で、ご兄弟で飲食業に携わっているようだ。
平日夜、予約にて訪問。カウンター7席、テーブル16席の小ぢんまりした店内は終始満席。予約をしてから訪問するのが望ましい。
使用している鶏は主に大山どりだが、追加串として、滋賀県「かしわの川中」の淡海地鶏を楽しむことができる。基本となる「やきとりコース」は、串9本にスープが付いて2400円と破格。いくら大山どりとは言え、その辺の居酒屋に行くよりも遥かに良い。今回は、このやきとりコースに、淡海地鶏の串を3本追加でお願いした。
