2024.03 No. 02 of "5,000 yen high-quality light drinks at night in Azabu" is Blue Papaya Thailand, a Thai Cuisine. I added two dishes to the base set price of 3,000 yen for one person. ◆Dinner set for one person (¥3000 including tax) + 2 additional dishes A set of 1 drink, appetizer plate (fresh spring rolls + gaiyan), soup, and main dish plate (choose 1 out of 4 types) is ¥3000, 2022 It seems like the price has gone up by about 500 yen since 2015, but it's still a reasonable price in Azabu. As for drinks, you can choose what you like from the menu, so I chose Singha. The appetizer plate that took a long time to serve was clearly freshly made. The fresh spring rolls have a perfect balance between the chewy skin, the richness of the shrimp, and the crunchy vegetables, and the fresh papaya adds an interesting accent. The gaiyan is carefully grilled and has a rich flavor, and the sauce mixed with coarsely ground nuts is also delicious. I often see restaurants that quickly serve pre-prepared appetizers to accompany alcohol, but I'm impressed by the fact that this restaurant takes the time to serve freshly prepared appetizers. For a moment, I felt like I hadn't had it in my hands, but when I tasted it, all my doubts were instantly blown away by how delicious it was. The soup changes daily, and on that night, it has a tom yum goong-like color, but is less sour, and instead has a combination of multi-layered flavors and aromas, including the taste of root stock and herbs, and is impressively delicious. Most of the ingredients look whitish, mostly shimeji mushrooms, and I don't think they use expensive ingredients, but the umami that blends into the soup, its complexity is incredible, and I recognize that the chefs don't cut corners. The main dish, khao man gai, was also carefully prepared, and not only the meat but also the fat was delicious. This combination is more than enough for 3,000 yen including one drink. So, that night, I added side dishes and dessert while worrying about how to allocate the remaining 2,000 yen. The fried spring rolls had a light texture, and although there was a higher proportion of vermicelli-like ingredients than I expected, the variety of toppings brought out plenty of flavor. The final dish is baked taro pudding. Served warm, fluffy, juicy, rich and delicious. This hit a personal note. When it comes to Thai Cuisine, you can cut corners as much as you want, and I believe this is a world where you can cut costs as much as you want by focusing on herbs. However, I think that the food at this restaurant is not cut corners. Moreover, they said it was OK to just have a meal without alcohol at night, so I decided to add it to the 1,000 yen night series, and I had a lot of fun.
