Cantine ALI-BAB, a French country and home-cooked restaurant located in Tameike-Sanno, Tokyo This is a cute Bistro located in a back alley between Tameike-Sanno and Roppongi 1-chome. The interior of the restaurant is decorated with state flags from each region of France, making it a Canteine that looks like it could be found in any French city. The owner is Mr. Ishizuka. About a quarter of a century ago, he moved to France and studied at the University of Bordeaux and the University of Burgundy, where he obtained a qualification as a winemaking engineer. He also studied under a brewer and later worked at Hotel de Crillon. A few years after returning to Japan, he opened a store in Tameike Sanno in 2005. For a long time, I was under the impression that the name Alibaba was Restaurants from the Middle East. When I asked the owner, he said it was easy to remember. Ali Babu is said to be the name of a French cook who wrote a cookbook. The lunch menu had a wide variety. Roast beef, beef ragout spaetzelle, assi parmentier, meli melo salad, Garrettes, gratin à la péchamel, sautéed chicken breast, toro (basque pot), couscous, grilled pork shoulder loin. It is possible to have it a la carte, but I chose it as a set. For appetizers, choose from contracted farmer's green salad, carrot rappe, tabbouleh of vegetables and couscous smoule, and today's soup. For the soup and main dish, I ordered Basque fatty tuna and an additional coffee. [Soup] ``Carrot Soup'' A rich and viscous soup based on carrot puree. A large bowl full of carotene. [Bread] ``Campagne'' A simple and soft type of whole wheat flour with a nice aroma. [Main] "Toro" A traditional dish from the Basque region, seafood hotpot. A bouillabaisse soup with no garlic or saffron, including mashed sea bream and sole, dried cod, potatoes, onions, cabbage, spinach, green beans, carrots, etc. Compared to the typical soup de poisson you get in Japan, this dish is more like the one made by local fishermen, and has a hearty finish with roughly mashed fish that gives you the feeling of loosening up the fish. It had a surprisingly light salty taste, but it also had a sweet and rich flavor, and I thought it would be delicious even if I added couscous and rice to it. [Dessert] "Ile Flottante" A French sweet made with milk and eggs. . An irresistible dish with caramel sauce, fluffy meringue that melts in your mouth, and sauce anglaise. Le Frottante literally translates to "floating island" in French, and comes from the fact that the meringue floats on top of the anglaise sauce. Also known as "Œufs à la neige". Strictly speaking, the method of making meringue is different. Another option is Chocolate mousse. [After-meal drink] ``Coffee'' Lavazza. Delicious coffee brewed by the owner himself. [Mignardise] ``Canelé aux Bordeaux'' A chewy and delicious canelé. I love local sweets. It was a little thrilling to finally be able to go. I can't come on weekdays unless I have something to do, but next time I'll try to visit in the evening.
