I visited this restaurant after 6:00 p.m. on a certain holiday in February 2024. Soba Izakaya (Japanese-style bar) "Kongoan Yushima" is located about a minute walk from Yushima Station. The spacious interior of the restaurant was about 70% filled with customers. We sat down at a table and ordered a bottle of "Yoshinogawa" hot sake (550 yen). We toasted with the rich and sweet hot sake. We were happy to see that the sake was hot and well heated. A yellowtail Simmered dish is served as an appetizer. Highly satisfying Small dish. The soy sauce flavor and the juicy yellowtail are well enjoyed and go well with sake. Assorted Wild Local Fish ¥2,079: A gorgeous-looking dish of fresh sashimi including yellowtail, prawn, Spanish mackerel, and horse mackerel, which the two of you can enjoy while sipping hot sake. The dish is served with a generous amount of wasabi (Japanese horseradish), and the pleasure of tasting the fatty yellowtail is all the more rewarding. Enjoy the chewy sashimi and good-sized prawns. Herring with Japanese pepper ¥880: Herring with Japanese pepper served with eggplant and green onion is outstandingly delicious. The freshness of the green onion and the sweetness of the cooked eggplant enhance the flavor. It is a great snack when served with hot sake. It is a dish that I would like to order again next time I come to this restaurant. Specialty Jumbo Fried Bean Curd, Grilled without Fried Bean Curd ¥693: A moderately grilled fried bean curd is served with dried bonito flakes and grated radish. The savory and crispy texture is a good balance. Although it is a classic dish as a snack for sake, it is a simple and good dish to enjoy high quality fried bean curd. Tempura Tempura Assorted ¥1,210: Shrimp, squid, pumpkin, eggplant, maitake mushrooms, and shiso leaves. The crispy fried Tempura is best eaten with tempura sauce and grated daikon. Admiring the stability of the squid Tempura, I fully enjoy the crunchiness of the batter with shiso leaves. Hot sake and fine soba noodles Tempura are irresistible. Fukiso-Miso Morokyu ¥495: A simple dish of professionally prepared cucumbers served with a miso paste. The slight bitterness and unique flavor of the butterbur gives it a depth of flavor. Cucumbers cut in various ways also have a nice texture. Specialty Hegisoba (for two) ¥1,760: I ordered two servings of the restaurant's specialty, hegisoba, to finish off the meal. The smooth texture of the hegisoba is served with a light sauce and condiments. The portion was more than enough to finish off the meal, but I enjoyed it to my heart's content. The final dish was soba-yu (buckwheat water), which was served in the sauce. Kongo An in Yushima was the ideal place for us to enjoy hot sake with sake snacks and finish with soba noodles. The quality of the food was excellent, and I was never disappointed. And yet the prices were kept low. I would like to use this restaurant again in the future.
