時は2019年11月20日の夜20時過ぎ。今年は二の酉までしかないせいなのか、浅草酉の市で賑わう鷲神社の混雑ぶりは、人身事故後の満員電車と同じくらい酷くて、境内を出て、周辺のテキ屋のあたりも人人人で満足に歩けぬ。
これは場所を変えて飲んだ方がいいというわけで国際通りを浅草へ向けて歩いた。そこへ発見した鄙びた店構え。創業70年と聞こえめでたき老舗だ。身体は自動的に吸い込まれようとしていて、それを察した気の利く元部下がサッと店に入って、運よく空いたカウンターの席4つを押さえてくれた。こんな人たちと酉の市に来れること自体が自分の幸運だと心で喜びつつ店に入る。
名物はねぎま鍋だという。ネギとマグロでねぎま鍋。戦後仙台の牛タン料理が始まったのと同じ歴史を辿ったようだ。食べ物のない時代に、人々がそれまで食べなかったマグロの尻尾を鍋にしたら、これは美味いと大変な評判になった。以後70年で老舗と化して、昭和40年代にセンセーショナルだったねぎま鍋は平成令和の伝統に変わった。歴史って素晴らしい。老舗って素晴らしい。名店、ブランドというのは歴史あればこそだ。
ぽっと出の店に気安く名店の称号など与えるものではないと感じつつ、仲間たちは次々と食べるものに舌鼓を打つ。カウンターの目の前にある一升瓶を指さしつつ店員と相談してはお銚子が席に運ばれてくる。美味いね！こんな出汁のよい名品たる鍋を突くなら、最初から日本酒にどっぷり浸かりたいもんだ。
元部下がさっきまで頭痛が痛かったのだけど、ここの酒は頭痛が治ると喜んだ。
いやはや、名店だ！
酉の市に来年の商売繁盛を祈った後で、こいつぁ、幸先がよいと仲間たちは喜びあった。
