現在の地で明治後期(1900年代)に創始期の東大構内で開業し、2002年に建て替え。今のご主人は寿司屋で見習いののち、渋谷の文琳さんで5年間修行。その後婿入りで5代目を継ぐ。魚については寿司屋の修行時代の伝手で毎日豊洲から仕入れ、マグロはマグロ問屋『やま幸』のものを使用。
粕漬けの味噌やメンチカツ、シューマイなども冷凍食品等の出来合いを使わず、すべて手作りにこだわっている。また漬物も自家製で、ぬか漬けは100年以上受け継がれたぬか床で漬けている。

お店は東大の教授への仕出し弁当店が始まりだったとか。
