Chicken Nanban set meal 790 yen (tax included) I'm running out of lunch options around Nakano Station. There are many restaurants, but I've almost exhausted the ones within a 45-minute round trip distance from my workplace, and all that's left are Ramen shops, chain restaurants with nationwide branches, and restaurants that cost at least 1,000 yen for lunch. So this time I went to this chain Izakaya (Japanese-style bar). I've had lunch at Teke-Teke near Shinjuku Station before, and when I reread the review, I thought I'd just copy it as it is, but that's not possible. The chicken nanban set meal, which is probably the most ordered, is made of soft fried chicken breast topped with tartar sauce. The batter is fritter-like and a little crunchy. The tartar sauce has a lot of onion and is homemade-style, but has a strong mayonnaise flavor. I prefer it with a stronger egg flavor. It comes with a mountain of shredded cabbage with plenty of yuzu soy sauce dressing. Rice is free up to a large serving, but I didn't know the default amount, so I ordered regular. It wasn't too small. The miso soup and pickles were average. The selection was a bit lacking. I wish there was one more dish. I didn't really like the taste of the chicken nanban, and although it was a reasonable price for lunch around here at under 800 yen, I didn't want to go back. The restaurant is in the basement and is quite spacious and relaxing. There are many lunch places around, so I thought it would be empty, but there were quite a few customers. Most of the customers were men because they had a lot of rice and a lot of hearty menus. There was only one staff member in the hall, but you can order with a tablet, so it doesn't matter if there are only a few dishes. The food was actually served quickly. I don't think the chicken nanban is particularly delicious, but I think it's worth it because it's a spacious place where you can eat in a relaxed atmosphere. I might come back when I don't want to have lunch in a small place where my shoulders are touching with the next customer, even if it's cheap and delicious.
