赤羽駅国鉄高架下ともなればどこでもWi-Fiがつながりそうだと思うのだけれど、実際にはありそでそれほど多くなく、こないだ他店で端末の一覧に表示されたまでで繋がらなかった電波を放つこちらへと、のこのことやってきた次第。
ある晴れた昼下がり、池袋で映画を堪能していた私は、飲み処などそのまま池袋で探せばよいものの、何が悲しくて赤羽まで戻って来てしまって条件の悪い中、何をどうするつもりだったのか ……
誘われたカウンター席。とても広く使えて、私には願ってもない席だった。
魚料理には白、肉料理には赤。
それを間違えればたちまちソ連のスパイにされてしまう ! しかしバジル風味のポテトサラダに合わせるワインを、私は知らなかった
続きおつまみとしてスパゲッティではない、しらすとブロッコリのペペロンチーノを注文。ハウスワインを赤にかえたのは、ただ迷走してるだけ。
とつとして、L字型のカウンターの死角で、酔っ払いの爺が女の子に凄んだ ! 如何にも赤羽らしいなと寧ろ懐かしささえ覚えるが、それを察知したお店の男性がすぐにカヴァに入ったことには感心させられた。
お店の女の子に凄むのもお客の仕事。そんな理不尽に黙って耐えるのがお店屋さんのアルバイトの務め。
そう信じて疑わないこの地域の人々の行動原理を私は軽蔑しているが、このようなお客の攻撃を、責任ある立場の方がさらりととり継いでいる光景を目にすると、こちらがちゃんと組織だって運営されている職場だということが判断出来、それはまた、衛生面や食材管理などの安全にも必ずや反映されているだろう、との安心感にもつながること
だがしかし、やはりこの生パスタだけは ……
日本海軍がゼロ戦というとんでもない航続距離を誇る戦闘機を開発してしまったが為に、その性能だけを根拠に立てられた暴挙的作戦が操縦者たちをひどく苦しめたように、日本の製麺所が技術の粋を尽くして開発に成功してしまった、この生パスタというスパゲッティとは似て非なる麺は、我々日本人を、しかし案外“もちもち”という名のもとに魅了しているように見えちゃえば、おれはもう売られていく子牛のような瞳で、なんだかなぁ ……
