仲間うちの飲み会で、町田の“個室居酒屋”を利用した。やや古びた雑居ビルの５階に上がると、パーテーションで区切られた“個室”が連なるフロアが広がる。週末とあって、店内は大小さまざまなグループで賑わっている。外国人アルバイトとおぼしきスタッフに極めて狭小な席に通され、全８品３時間飲み放題付き「奥羽牛タン満喫コース」4,000円がスタートした。生ビール・サワー・ハイボールから日本酒・焼酎・ワインまで全128種のドリンクは、タッチパネルでオーダーする。
“とりあえずビール”で乾杯といきたいところだが、待てど暮らせどビールは来ない。季節の前菜“枝豆”と“仙台牛タン入りチョレギサラダ”をつまみながら待つと、30分近く経ってようやく喉を潤せた。嫌いな“モルツ”だが、こんなに美味く感じたのは初めてかもしれない。“日本海直送お造り盛り合わせ”は薄いサーモンとイカが一人たったの一切れずつ、“ハタハタの唐揚げ”は揚げたてで美味い。
“生ビール”のおかわりも来る気配が全くなく、しかたなく厨房に足を運ぶ。すると今度はピッチャーに入ってやってきた。以後ピッチャーが空になる度に厨房に行き、直接受け取ることにした。カクテル系も楽しみたかったが、到底無理だと諦めた。他の個室を覗くと、どこも空のジョッキが並んでいた。
“厚切り牛タン串焼き”は旨いが、一人分かと見紛う少量である。“牛タンしゃぶしゃぶ”は鍋に野菜がどっさりで、最初からタンが一人２枚ずつ入っている。こちらは胡椒の効いた“つゆ”で、美味しくいただけた。このあと“〆の炙り肉寿司”と“デザート”が続くはずだが、１時間近く待っても運ばれない。それどころか“ラストオーダー”まで告げられ、さすがに苦情を並べた。会計を間違われた客もいたようで、店内は不穏な空気が漂っていた。
“東北うまいもん”の謳い文句と“飲み放題”で誘い、実はビールすら満足に提供できない居酒屋。果たしていつまで存在するのだろうか。
