April 2024 Hokuriku Food Tour Himi City, Toyama Prefecture Fish Cafeterias group arrived at Komatsu Airport around 9am. We rented a car and went for a drive. We drove slowly along the Chirihama Nagisa Driveway in Hakui City, Ishikawa Prefecture. After that, we crossed the Noto Peninsula and arrived at a fishing port in Himi City, Toyama Prefecture. As per our itinerary, we decided to have lunch there. We visited a restaurant called Fish Market Cafeterias, which is exactly what it sounds like. It's a very popular restaurant, so we were prepared to wait in line, but since it was 11am on a weekday, we were able to enter without any problems. However, if we had arrived 20 minutes later, we would have had to wait in line, so we were safe. Anyway, when we sat down, the stove was already set up. We read the menu while wondering what it was for. Then, our eyes were drawn to the Himihama Donburi Set Meal, which was written in red letters as "Fish Market Cafeterias Specialty." There were three types of it: a small serving of Chokkoshimori, a regular serving of Yawayawamori, and a large serving of Hansamori. Being a tourist, I ordered the "Hansamori" without any hesitation. I also ordered the local specialty, white shrimp Croquette. A clay pot was brought immediately and set on the stove on the table. Ah, that's what it was for. Inside the pot was fisherman's soup, which contained fish bones, green onions, and fishballs. I warmed it up for a while while waiting for the main course to arrive. About 10 minutes later, the bowl arrived. Wow! What is this??? On the surface of the bowl, locally produced sashimi was arranged like a chrysanthemum. On this day, the selection included fukurigiri (young yellowtail), Spanish mackerel, turbot, black porgy, firefly squid, and sweet shrimp. The types change depending on the season. Ahhh, I envy the people of Himi. Naturally, all the sashimi was very fresh and delicious. There is no way anyone wouldn't be satisfied with this. The other white shrimp Croquette didn't taste much like shrimp at all, but just as I was about to finish it, it peeked out and made its presence known. I was reminded once again that white shrimp should really be eaten as sashimi. The fishballs at the end were exquisitely tasty, and I finished off my meal with a drink of Fisherman's Soup. This is a highly recommended spot for sightseeing in the Hokuriku region. However, be aware that it is difficult to access without a car. It was very delicious.
