I used a coupon I received as a gift to stay at the long-established Ryokan "Tachibanaya" in Atsumi Onsen, Yamagata Prefecture. I took the Shinkansen to Niigata Station and then took a local express train to Atsumi Onsen. From the station, I was picked up by Tachibanaya and arrived at the large Ryokan along the river. At the back of the spacious lobby, there is a lounge overlooking the courtyard with a large pond, and the interior is very spacious. We had dinner in the hall on the second floor. The tables are divided by partitions for each group in a very large space, so you can eat leisurely without worrying about the people around you. When you tell them your room number, you will be guided to your assigned table. The first meal was set on the table along with the menu. (The waitresses will explain the dishes, but because the venue is large, everyone is wearing masks, their voices are low, and on top of that they speak very quickly and it is difficult to hear, so the menu details below may not be completely accurate.) Course name: "Uzuki" ◆ Aperitif: "Plum-scented non-alcoholic cocktail" A plum cocktail with the tartness of vinegar ◆ Appetizer: "Three kinds of wild vegetables that color spring" *Octopus jelly *Boiled spinach *Japanese parsley These appetizers give you a taste of spring in just one bite ◆ Sashimi: "Assortment of fresh fish from Shonaihama" *Black rockfish *Sea bream *Tuna ◆ Grilled dish: "Sakura trout with kinome dengaku" A spring-like dengaku with kinome buds The sweet and salty taste brings out the umami of the trout ◆ Simmered dish: "Broad bean kudzu buns with special Tachibanashite happō ginsangana" A broad bean kudzu bun filled with minced chicken and topped with anko made from grilled sea bream broth The soft kudzu buns were smooth and the flavor of the soup stock spread throughout, making them a delicious dish ◆Hot pot "Yumi Onabe Sakurami pork loin with wild vegetable hot pot" A shabu shabu hot pot served in a broth flavored with grilled red sea bream stock There was no explanation of the types of wild vegetables, so it's unclear what they were The beautiful pork loin was soft and delicious with plenty of umami ◆Meal "Shonai-grown Haenuki mixed vegetable chirashi" Salmon roe, egg, shiitake mushroom, fried food, shiso leaf, seaweed The white rice was delicious with haenuki For a mixed vegetable chirashi, I wish there was a bit more volume in the ingredients ◆Tomewan "Yudagawa Moso soup made with Shonai miso" What is Moso soup? I thought so, but the person at the nearby table seemed to have the same thought and asked the waitress. It was a type of bamboo shoot called Moso bamboo. It was miso soup with large pieces of Moso bamboo and wakame seaweed. I feel spring ◆Pickles "Homemade lightly pickled spring cabbage" ◆Water change "Plum crush jelly" We were told to ask for a refill of rice, so when my companion asked for a refill, it was white rice instead of Gomoku Chirashi. The menu seemed to vary depending on the price of the accommodation. I thought there was no Fried food, and the food was light, but I left the dining area thinking that it was okay since we were staying with a coupon.
