新山口駅の建物に入っているお店で、基本的には飲み屋のようですが、昼時も食事が出来るようになっているので、今回の目的である山口県の名物「瓦そば」を目当てに入りました。
以前、博多駅の売店でお土産の瓦そばを買って、自宅で作って食べましたが、イメージは写真で分かるものの、本来どういう形で提供されるのか、ずっと気になっていたのです。その謎解きをしようと考えたのです。
入り口から入った部分はテーブル席が左右に整然と並び、意外に座席数が多いことが分かります。私は一人だったせいもあって、そのまま奥まで案内され、カウンターにどうぞ、と言われました。
厨房の一部を囲むようにL字形のカウンターがあり、そこに座ってメニューを確認して、瓦そばの単品(定食もある)とビールを頼みました。いや、頼んだつもりでした。
しばらくして瓦そばと瓶が出てきて、さあ食べて飲むぞ、と瓶のラベルを見ると何とノンアルではありませんか。栓が開いてるので交換も憚られるし諦めてグラスへ注ぎました。
瓦そば自体は、瓦を模した鉄板に、軽く炒められた茶そばが敷き詰められ、その上に色んな具が乗っています。意外に華やかな感じですが、味の方はリピートはしないかな、という感じでした。まあ、名物になんとかですね。
気になるノンアルですが、実はこっそりと鞄の中から焼酎のペットを出して、ノンアルビールに足し混ぜて飲んだのです。まるでホッピーのような感じで。お店の人、ごめんなさいね。
多分、昼間っからビールは飲まないだろう、と店員が確認もせずに持ってきたんでしょうね。まあ、バイトっぽかったし私も確認しなかったわけで、しょうがないかな、と。
そこまでして飲みたいか〜と聞かれれば、素直に「飲みたいです」と答えてしまう私が嫌です。血圧が高くなる所以です。
今回はお店の評価というより瓦そばの評価っぽいです。次回、機会があれば夜の部にお邪魔します。ちと遠いですが。
