中部地方はうなぎ屋さんの数がとても多い。人口当たりのうなぎ屋さんの数は三重県津市が１位だし、うなぎの消費量は静岡県が１位、愛知県もうなぎ屋の数が多いし、全国の誇る名店も多い。そんな愛知県の老舗うなぎ屋さん。大正時代に創業したというから、鰻木屋や蓬莱軒、いば昇には負けるが名古屋で有数の老舗である。伏見駅から歩いて３分行きやすい場所にある。名古屋のうなぎ名店は何処も大行列するのに比べここは並んだとしてもせいぜい２０分程度で入れるのがいいところ。予約も可能なのでとても利用しやすい。

名古屋は、蒸さないでうなぎを食すのでとても美味しいのだが、同じ蒸さないうなぎでも様々なタイプに判れる。ひつまぶしに向いた表面をぱりっと、中は脂が溶け出すよく焼いたタイプと、田代のようなジューシーなタイプ、さらに蒸さないが身に縦の切れ目を入れて焼き脂をよく落としていたりするタイプがある。
ここは表面はかりっと焦げ目もつけて焼き、脂はそこそこ落とすタイプで蒸さないけど比較的あっさりしたタイプ。
うなぎは白焼きが一番味が判る。白焼きを何もつけずそのまま食べるのが私の好みでもある。このお店は白焼きで表面をかりっと焼くために、多分卵白をぬっているのであろう。結構かりっとしている。ちょっと焼きすぎという感じもするが、白焼きの味もまずまずであろう。
鰻丼並だと２１００円からありいつでも入れる。でも老舗なので味も一流なお店である。
