毎年のことだが、１月は何かと用事で時間がとられがちで、行きたいお店は数多く待機しているのだが、身動きが取れないまま、気が付けば月末近く。
こうなることは旧年中に予見もできたので、ここを2024年の好き勝手に食べ歩くスタートにしようと一休で予約を入れたのが、ここ〈日山〉さん。
人形町の「顔」の一つで、１階の精肉店はかつてよく利用していたり、思い入れもあるお店。すき焼きの店はあまり１人の予約を受けてくれないが、ここは珍しく受けてくれる。
肉屋の横の暖簾をくぐり、階段を上がっていくと、下足番が出迎えてくれる。靴を脱いで札を渡され、仲居さんに連れられて座敷席へ。
お酒のリストを見ると何だかどれもイイ値段するなぁ…と思ったら、四合瓶ばかりだと気づいて合点がいく。まあ、私のような一人客は珍しいだろうな。そんな中で、300mlの用意があった〈加賀鳶〉の超辛口をもらう。
直球で美味しい。
１枚、１枚、焼いていただける。最初に鉄板でネギを焼いて割り下に香りを移し、肉を焼く。米沢牛のサーロイン２枚、リブロース１枚。１枚あたり50gほどとのこと。肉質は申し分ないし、醤油も利いた甘濃い味わいを含ませた牛肉の味わいに、一人悶える。噛めば濃厚な味わいにまじって肉汁がほとばしる。お見事。
日本酒も合う。山廃仕込みの味わいがすき焼きに丁度いいだろうという目論見通り。ごはんもふっくら炊かれていて、肉のお伴にいただくもよし、肉をくぐらせた卵をかけて卵かけごはんにしてもよし。ごはんもおかわりできるし、至れり尽くせり。つい、食べ過ぎてしまった。ごはんのお伴としていただくすき焼きの肉ほど幸せをくれるものは、そうない。
充実の１時間を過ごしてお勘定は20,000円弱。比較すべきものではないとわかりつつ、和食のバブル具合を思うと、このお値段でこの幸福感はむしろお安く感じてしまう。
その後、所用でアレコレ立ち回ったのだが、家へ戻るとやる気がなくなって午睡の時間。美味しいもので腹が満ちると、人間、何もする気が起きなくなるものだということがよくわかった。
