鴨が食べたい、という家族の要望で検索して見つけた店。
少し奥まっているとはいえ、二寧坂の中央付近で日のある内は観光客で渋滞しているの場所にある。
洒落たスターバックスの混雑を横目に路地の奥に行く。
年末年始限定メニューの文字に更に不安を覚え、ジビエの文字に家族が怯える。
「フツーの店でにしん蕎麦(要は祇園の松葉)が食べたい」という定番好きの声を押し切って、控え目な照明の店に入る。晦日にもかかわらず、先客はいない。
鴨ザル蕎麦、牡蛎ザル蕎麦、雑炊という一般的な注文をする。
「十割蕎麦ですが、大丈夫ですか」と言われるが、あまり気にしない。
ほどほどの時間で食卓に蕎麦が四つ並ぶ頃には、一階は満席になっていた。
飾り気の無い盛り付けで目立つのは、塩を含む薬味類だ。
「蕎麦を塩で試してみてください。十割なので汁につけすぎるとすぐにバラバラになります」
勧められるまま塩で蕎麦を食べると、これが美味い。素朴に蕎麦の味を楽しめる。
素朴さに彩りを加えるように、時々、汁や具を食べると、コース料理のように起伏を楽しめた。
あっと言う間に蕎麦と具が無くなると、残った汁を雑炊にしてくれる。
これが絶品。姿形の無くなった鴨や牡蛎をもう一度味わうことができる。
「牡蛎がこんなに美味しいのは初めてだ」と未成年の家族が感動している。
蕎麦湯も出てくるので、雑炊にしない汁も一つあると良い。これも具から出た成分がとても美味しく味わえる。
費用対効果か味、もしくは双方を諦めるのが当たり前の場所柄だが、見事に不安は解消され、満ち足りて店を出た。
おかげで夜に鴨鍋を張り込む必要が無くなり、京都駅の東側のラーメンでも可い、という気分になる程、少量ながらも印象的な鴨や牡蛎を味わうことができました。
